Accuracy has been an issue with Wyoming quarterbacks the last several years. And it’s something that they are working on this spring with new offensive coordinator Tim Polasek. Sean Chambers and Levi Williams have performed well this spring, but Polasek says the accuracy on deep balls and on their deeper drop backs needs improvement if they’re going to be the offense they want to be come fall.
“Obviously that’s not going to be, percentage-wise, in the 50s, but it can hurt a defense. And I think we need to do a better job with that. I like how they’re operating in some of our open formations, as far as things where we can get the ball out of our hand quickly. We can decipher the coverage, we know where we’re going, and we’ve been fairly accurate in those situations.”
Polasek added, “We just have to get a little bit better with anything that’s down the field, and anything that’s more than five steps progression.”
The Cowboys went through their first major scrimmage of spring football last Saturday. Head coach Craig Bohl said it went 94 plays, and that as far as the quarterback play went, he said there needs to be more consistency from Chambers and Williams.
Wyoming continues with spring practice tomorrow (Thursday) in Laramie. The annual spring game is set for May 8th at War Memorial Stadium.
