Wyoming interior defensive lineman Jordan Bertagnole and Cole Godbout are as constant as any players on the Wyoming Cowboy defense. Both are in the top five on the team in tackles. Godbout is third, with 28–including 4.5 for loss and ten quarterback hurries. Bertagnole is fifth in tackles with 22, with 2.5 for loss and a sack, two QB hurries and a forced fumble. Wyoming defensive coordinator Jay Sawvel says that the duo is playing at a really high level right now.
“Both of them are playing extremely well. They really kind of controlled a lot of that game (BYU), in the run game, the other night. Bertagnole had a great game and Cole Godbout has played well every week.” Sawvel added, “Those two guys, in particular, just have been so, so good for us throughout the year. Their both playing really, really well right now.”
On Bertagnole specifically, Sawvel says he is the standard-bearer for the model student-athlete.
“He will fight, scratch, claw, every single play, every single day. He practices hard, works out hard in the weight room. He’s like a model citizen if you go, ‘just be like this’. You really point to Bertagnole and go, ‘just be like Bertagnole’, just do that,” said Sawvel. “That’s easier said than done because of how hard he works with everything, and the amount of passion that he plays with and carries with him.”
The Wyoming Cowboys are back at home Saturday evening, as they host San Jose State. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm.
