WMA 9-27, 2016
The Wyoming Mining Association (WMA) has named Travis Deti to lead the statewide trade organization as its new Executive Director. Deti will serve as the Interim Executive Director from October 1st until confirmed by the WMA Board of Directors at their regularly scheduled meeting on October 12th.
Deti has served as the organization’s Assistant Director since 2011 and replaces Jonathan Downing as Executive Director following Downing’s departure to lead the Wyoming Liberty Group.
“Travis has been an asset to our industry since he first joined WMA.” said Matt Young, WMA Board President and Mine Manager of the Buckskin Mining Company. “Travis has worked tirelessly to make the WMA and mining in Wyoming better in his current role as Assistant Director and I have no doubt that he will continue in his new role. We also would like to thank Jonathon for his service to the WMA and wish him good luck in his new endeavor.”
Prior to joining WMA, Deti worked as legislative assistant and field representative to U.S. Senators Craig Thomas and John Barrasso in both Washington, DC and Cheyenne. Deti also has extensive Wyoming political campaign experience.
Deti grew up in Laramie and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Wyoming. A former United States Marine Corps sergeant, Deti is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and was appointed to the Wyoming Veterans Commission in 2011by Governor Matt Mead. Deti is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Wyoming. He and his wife Kim live in Cheyenne and have two sons, John and Brendan.
“These are challenging and exciting times for the mining industry,” Deti said. “I am honored to continue representing Wyoming’s mining industry, which is so important to our state and its economy, and look forward to advocating for its interests in this new role.”
The Wyoming Mining Association represents and advocates for 37 mining company members producing bentonite, coal, trona and uranium, as well as one company developing a rare earth element mine. WMA also represents 129 associate member companies, two railroads, one electricity co-op, and 180 individual members.
