Proposed new reading materials for students in Cody schools have drawn criticism from some who say they promote a liberal agenda.
They contend the agenda includes inaccurate discussion of global warming and a disproportionate focus on the stories of minorities.
However, others say that the critics are over sensitive to the materials and that the reading curriculum is needed to help students succeed in today’s world.
The Park County School District 6 school board has been looking at the proposed curriculum for about two years. It held a public meeting Tuesday night to hear comments.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports that the proposed reading materials are aligned to the Common Core State Standards.
The school board will form a separate committee to address complaints filed over the materials.
