Wyoming volleyball sophomore Jackie McBride has been named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. It marks her first career conference weekly honor.
McBride was key for the Cowgirls last week, helping the Pokes to a 3-0 start with wins over No. 15 Colorado, Oral Roberts and North Florida. The sophomore scored 26 kills on the weekend with an efficient .442 hitting percentage, racking up a team-leading 35 points on the way to earning Rumble in the Rockies tournament MVP honors.
The Aurora, Colo., product was clutch in the Wyoming upset of the 15th-ranked Buffs, recording five of the Cowgirls’ 11 kills in the match’s decisive fifth set to help the Pokes clinch the win. For the match, she recorded 14 kills on 24 total attakcs for a .417 hitting percentage, along with five blocks. Both the kills and total attacks marked new season highs.
In the Cowgirls’ season opener against North Florida, McBride tallied four kills and five blocks, before recording eight blocks on a perfect, 1.000 hitting percentage in the night’s second match against Oral Roberts. That total went along with six total blocks and an assist.
After three matches, McBride’s .442 hitting percentage is third in the MW, while she ranks fifth in blocks with an average of 1.45 per set.
McBride and the Cowgirls now turns their attention to next weekend when they will travel to face Portland, LIU Brooklyn and Montana State in tournament action in Portland, Ore. Action at the event begins on Friday.
