Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl didn’t mince any words about the direction they’re heading, following last Saturday’s shutout loss to Fresno State. Bohl says that all aspects of the offense will be looked at, and evaluated this week. Quarterbacks Sean Chambers and Levi Williams will split reps this week, and a starter will be named later this week, or possibly right before the Cowboys matchup with New Mexico. But, it’s more than just a quarterback issue with the Pokes, as Bohl says the offensive line needs to take a hard look at what they’re doing.
“With that though, there maybe needs to be an increased level of detail to….” Bohl paused, and added, “when you engage and block a guy, and you’re blocking the right guy, you finish that block off. And many times that’s the difference between a three yard gain and eight yard gain. Way too many times during the course of this (Fresno St.) game we were in third down and long, and so this group has to take a hard look at what we’re doing.”
As far as the quarterbacks go, Chambers has struggled the last couple of games. There’s a lot that goes into that, but Williams is going to get a shot to win the job this week. He has shown ability to perform in big situations, and is excited to be back in the mix, but says his mindset doesn’t change this week.
“It’s the same mindset from week one, and even before week one. It’s preparing to play, it’s preparing to start. And that’s the kind of attitude I take to every week. Obviously it’s going to be nice to get some of those first team reps, with those guys. But my preparation doesn’t change. I’m still going through my normal routine, and preparing the way I would for every other Saturday.”
Wyoming is back at home this weekend, trying to snap a two-game losing streak, as they host New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm.
