SHERIDAN, Wyo. — A large number of antelope hunting permits in the Sheridan area are bringing nonresident hunters to the region to snap up the extra tags.

The Sheridan Press reports that Wyoming Game and Fish Sheridan Region spokesman Bud Stewart says high fawn production in 2014 has led the department to issue more antelope permits this year in than in the past.

Stewart says there are only so many residents who want permits, leaving leftover permits to be purchased by anyone.

Because of the influx of out-of-state residents, outfitters, dining, lodging and other Sheridan businesses are seeing a slight bump in business during the otherwise slower months.

Steward says deer and elk populations in the Sheridan region are expected to also be above average this year.
