GILLETTE, Wyo. — Many Campbell County parents are fighting against a proposed change to have elementary, junior and high schools start at the same time.

The Gillette News Record reports that more than 200 people attended meetings Tuesday evening to discuss a measure to delay school start times at the junior high and high school level. No one spoke in favor of the change.

There was also strong opposition for possibly starting elementary school earlier in the mornings at the same time as other schools to make more efficient use of buses.

Some parents threatened to elect new school trustees if school start times changed despite the opposition.

School officials presented information from the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Sleep Foundation recommending school start times of 8:30.m. or later for adolescents due to changing circadian rhythms.
