Country music has become absolute trash

What the heck is going on with country music? It used to be good, but all the new stuff is just junk. Or maybe I’m just getting old.

I apologize for veering off the normal topics of this show, which are hunting, fishing, camping, and other stuff related to the outdoors. But country music has its roots in the places where hunting, fishing, shooting and generally enjoying the outdoors come from, so maybe there is some connection here. At the very least, I have a feeling there are a lot of other people like me, who like to hunt, fish, camp, hike and shoot, who also feel the way I do, and it’s time we stand up and say something about what’s been happening to country music.

Yes, I realize this is still a stretch, but what made me think of it is Blake Shelton’s latest song. It’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard on the radio. The song is called “Come Back As a Country Boy.” The sentiment is nice – he says when he dies, he wants to be reincarnated as one of us, a guy who lives far from the city and has the opportunity to hunt and fish and whatever else out in the wilds. But it’s just a dumb song. Stupid lyrics, uninspired music, and don’t get me started on the bizarre video he made to go along with it. It’s just another example of the country music industry making us look bad.

Then there’s Florida Georgia Line. Again, they talk a lot about getting out in the woods and doing outdoorsy stuff, but I think I’d rather listen to stray cats fight than listen to one of their songs all the way through. How did they even get a record contract, let alone find a way to attract so many fans? They’re like the Alabama of the 2000s – horrible music that somehow has a huge following.

The only good country music anymore is by singers like Carrie Underwood, who happens to be a vegetarian. How is that even possible? You should be required to eat meat if you want to sing country music.

Oh, well. I guess I’ll just listen to all my “oldies,” from back when country music was good.
