Cowgirl swimmer Hannah Mclean-Leonard has been named the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week for Dec. 30-Jan. 6. It’s the first time in her career that she has earned the honor and the second time this season a Cowgirl has won the award.
Mclean-Leonard’s performance in the butterfly and relay events helped the Cowgirls to a 3-1 record over the week. The team earned victories over Cal Baptist, Incarnate Word and Grand Canyon.
Mclean-Leonard, a sophomore from Durban, South Africa, recorded five first and one third place finishes over the week. She scored 31 points with two individual and two relay wins against Incarnate Word and UC San Diego, while recording 20 points in the final duals of the week.
She was the third leg in the 400 medley relay that recorded a time of 3:51.51 and the 200 freestyle relay that placed third with a time of 1:36.65. Mclean-Leonard swept both the 100 and 200 butterfly with 55.47 and 2:06.56 times respectively. Against CBU and GCU, she placed first in the 100 butterfly with her second best time of the season, 54.92, and a first place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:46.17.
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 18 against the Boise State Broncos. The meet is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT at Laramie High School.
