For the second consecutive week, the Wyoming Cowgirl swimming and diving team swept the Mountain West Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, announced by the conference office today. Senior Kari Campbell was named the Diver of the Week, while senior Molly Coonce earned the Swimmer of the Week.
It marks the second honor for both Campbell and Coonce in their careers. It is also the third time the Cowgirls have swept the weekly awards. Campbell and Maria Harutjunjan did so last week and Morgan Hartigan and Amanda Fay achieved the feat on January 29, 2014. Coonce won her first weekly award as a junior on Dec. 16, 2014.
Campbell, a senior from Laramie, Wyo., took second place in both the 1 and 3-meter diving competitions this weekend against Arizona State. She scored a 282.30 on the 1-meter and a 294.30 on the 3-meter event. Campbell is a two-time All-MW honoree and after competing against Denver on Jan 9th, has qualified three times for the NCAA Zone “E” Diving Championships.
Coonce, a native of Batavia, Ill., held a key part in leading the Cowgirls to their first-ever win against a PAC-12 opponent. Coonce dominated the 100 and 200 fly events against Arizona State. She won the 100 fly (55.25) with the seventh fastest time in Cowgirl history, and also brought home a victory in the 200 fly (2:03.96) for what was the tenth-best time in UW history. Coonce was also a member of the first place 200 medley relay squad.
