The Bureau of Land Management High Desert District, in coordination with Sweetwater County, continues to fight a wildfire near County Road 27 and Maggie Springs in the Bitter Creek area, burning an estimated 2,487 acres.
The cause of the wildfire is still unknown. Strong outflow winds and red flag conditions pushed the fire in opposite directions following deep draws and following the available fuel. As of Tuesday morning, about 15 percent of the wildfire has been contained.
Dispatch resources include: 13 engines, two helicopters, three airplanes, two Type-II IA hand crews, one bulldozer and 101 firefighters.
The public is urged to use caution or avoid the area since fire behavior can change and fire spread is unpredictable if high winds develop.
Please report all wildfires immediately to the Rawlins Dispatch Center at 1-800-295-9953 or to emergency 911.
