Dangerously High Winds Expected Statewide Today, Rain & Snow Possible In Western/Southern Wyoming

An upper-level weather system and cool front will move across the state of Wyoming today.  The main concern will be dangerously high winds throughout the entire state.  Gusts up to or exceeding 65 to 75 mph are expected along I-80 (Nebraska to Rock Springs), I-25 (Colorado to Wheatland), and other adjacent highways, which will create an extreme blow-over risk to light and high-profile vehicles.  Elsewhere, expect wind gust between 50 and 65 mph.  Light to scattered snow will also develop throughout the day in western and much of southern Wyoming.  While generally small accumulations are expected, the combination of very high winds and on-going snow will pose even more travel concerns, including slick to very icy roadways with periods of blowing snow and reduced visibility.  Elsewhere, there will be only a small chance for rain and snow showers later today and overnight.  Any roads that are still wet after sunset will have the potential to freeze and form black ice.  Our latest weather system will move out of the region early on Friday and then higher pressure will build overhead for the rest of the day.  Cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, strong to high winds, and lingering rain/snow showers will remain in the forecast through mid-day.  We will then see increasing sunshine and dry conditions for the rest of the day.  Winds, however, will remain strong to high, especially across central and eastern Wyoming.
