The primaries are coming on Tuesday, Aug. 18. This is important, because we had a very low voter turnout in the last election. And this year, there are a whole bunch of people angling for a lot of very important seats. Posts that will be making big decisions that affect your ability to find a place to hunt or fish. And if we have that problem of a low voter turnout again, some of the candidates who don’t really care about your access to hunting and fishing areas may knock out the ones who would fight for you.
Do a little research between now and election day. Look at the voting records of the people who are trying to get elected. There’s one candidate for Governor who has done a lot to protect our hunting and fishing heritage, and his voting record in the State Legislature shows that.
Don’t listen to what the candidates say about each other – 99% of the time, when they’re talking about their opponents, they’re taking things out of context or just lying outright. Do your own digging and get the truth.
The Governor’s race isn’t the only one with a lot of candidates running. There are bunches of people running for just about every statewide position on the ballot. Locally, you may have a bunch more candidates for the regional elections, too.
Back to that low voter turnout issue. A couple of years ago, a lot of seats were decided by a difference of less than 50 votes. Some came down to less than 20 votes one way or another. The stakes this year are too high to leave it to that kind of chance. We need as many voters as we can get to go vote. Don’t sit on the sidelines and let a small number of people decide the future of Wyoming. Do your research, then vote for the candidate you think best represents you and the issues you care about.
Just make sure you go to the polls on Aug. 18.
