I’m a map and compass guy, but even I enjoy the convenience of some of the latest technological advances. I used to use a GPS for simple navigation and to mark waypoints and routes, but then along came OnX Hunt. It runs on your smartphone, so you don’t need an additional piece of equipment or extra batteries. And it does so much more than most of the GPS units out there will do without extra costs for additional modules.
But like any technological advancement, OnX Hunt has a bit of a learning curve. Once you get started using it, everything becomes easier and easier. It’s that initial dip of the toe into the pool that’s difficult.
But you can accelerate your plunge into the OnX deep end with a master class they’re offering for free on Wednesday. The class starts at 5:30, and you don’t have to go anywhere to take it. It’s online, so you can take part wherever you can get an internet signal. You’ll need to register for the class to get the link to join, so do that ahead of 5:30 on Wednesday so you don’t miss any of the beginning of the class. You can find a link to the registration page at CowboyStateNews.com here.
Tune in to find out how to get started using OnX Hunt, and then explore some of the more advanced features, like finding out who owns a piece of land you’d like to see about getting permission to hunt. Or using the maps when you can’t get a cell signal – which is a large percentage of the time when you’re out in the field. They’ll also have some giveaways sprinkled throughout the class, so be sure to get registered and tune in so you can win the goodies they’re giving away.
Don’t throw away your maps and compasses, but check out the OnX Hunt master class to find out how you can do all the things you used to do with maps – and a whole lot more – with very little effort on your part.
