I have had the great fortune to get to know wildlife photographer Tim Christie over the last 20 years or so. He used to teach photography at a college in Idaho during the week, then spend every available moment getting out in the wilds to capture some of the most incredible wildlife photos I’ve ever seen. He retired from teaching several years ago and now spends all his time chasing wildlife.
One of the best things about Tim’s gift for photography is that by its very nature, it allows him to share it with others. He has done that for decades with his photos and stories in Wyoming Wildlife magazine, Colorado Outdoors, American Hunter, Field & Stream, and dozens of other publications. He’s also produced several calendars each year for the past few years, and I have them all up on my walls in my home and my office.
But now he’s put together a book, and it’s spectacular. Not only does he share those magnificent photos of moose, bald eagles, polar bears, elk, pine martens, mountain goats and other beautiful creatures, he also tells the stories of how he was able to capture each image. The book would have been wonderful with just the photos, but Tim’s as good a storyteller as he is a photographer, so it’s also a great read.
As a hopeful wildlife photographer myself, those stories are a huge bonus. They allow me to understand what it takes to be successful in this game. They also put the reader right there next to Tim’s tripod and bring even more life to the photos.
You can get one of Tim’s books by finding him on Facebook at Tim Christie, or by emailing him at Tim@TimChristiePhoto.com.
