If you’re planning to upgrade your gear for your fall hunts, you don’t have to look too far. We have more than a few great companies right here in Wyoming that make some very impressive gear.
Take Maven, for instance. The company is based in Lander, and it makes some of the best optics you can find. They offer rifle scopes, spotting scopes and binoculars, all of which are built to the highest specifications. They aren’t cheap – their C.3 binos in 10×50 are $400, but they are an excellent value for the quality.
And of course there’s Brunton, out of Riverton. In a world of GPS, compasses are often neglected, but you want to make sure you have a good one in your pocket anytime you’re in the backcountry. And Brunton makes the best compasses you can get. Pick up a TruArc 15 for 60 bucks, know how to use it, and you’ll never get lost.
We have several gun companies here, too. Weatherby made headlines when it moved to Wyoming a couple of years ago, and their barrels are now stamped with “Made in Sheridan, Wyoming.” But Freedom Arms has been making big game hunting handguns here for years, and Gunwerks offers long-distance rifle systems that are becoming very well known in the shooting world.
And don’t forget the accessories. Magpul builds most of its products here in Cheyenne, and ThunderBeast is also a Cheyenne company. ThunderBeast and Magpul both offer bipods that can help you steady your aim.
While you’re gearing up for your hunt this year, buy local as much as you can. And rest assured that some of the best outdoor products are made right here in Wyoming.
