A backup quarterback always has to be ready. At any time during a game, their number could be called–either due to an injury to the starter, or poor play. That’s exactly what happened last Saturday, when starter Andrew Peasley was injured within the first few plays of the game. Backup Jayden Clemons came into the game, and promptly completed both of his pass attempts for 25 yards. Peasley would come back into the game soon after, but Clemons says he takes his job as the backup very seriously.
“I take my job seriously because football is football, and everyone is always one snap away from next man up mentality. Andrew went down and that’s my job to go in there and to transition things as normal, even though that quarterback switch is sometimes a little bit different.” Clemons added, “Andrew went down and I came in and just tried to execute the job and the gameplan. Once he came back out, I was back to my normal job.”
Wyoming is back on the field this Saturday, as the Cowboys are on the road at New Mexico. Kickoff is set for 5 pm.
