Ja’la Henderson has been named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. Henderson won a pair of event titles at the NDSU Team Challenge last weekend.
Overall, it is the third weekly indoor MW award for Henderson and the second this season.
Henderson, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, continued her dominance in the horizontal jumps last week. She earned the long jump crown at the NDSU Team Challenge with a mark of 19 feet, 2.5 inches, and she has now won both long jump competitions she’s participated in this season. Her season-best long jump of 20-7 is eighth in the NCAA and tops in the Mountain West.
After stepping on the podium for her long jump victory, Henderson went on to win the triple jump with a season-best leap of 42-4, nearly three feet ahead of second place. That mark is 12th in the NCAA and the best in the Mountain West this season. It is her second triple jump crown in as many competitions. She earned 18 points in the team score with her two first place finishes for the Cowgirls.
The track & field squads are back in action on January 26, when they compete in the Powder River Dual against Montana State in Gillette, Wyo.
