High Winds Return Later Today, Chance For Colder & More Unsettled Weather Tonight Into Friday

Our latest weather system will move out of the state of Wyoming today.  Expect partly to mostly sunny skies with unseasonably mild temperatures statewide.  Winds will lessen briefly across the state through mid-day, but strong winds will still be found across the more wind-prone areas of central and southern Wyoming. Watch out for wind gusts between 35 and 50 mph at times. A larger and slower-moving weather system and cold front will then approach the state later today and tonight. This will cause winds to increase throughout the entire state. High winds and high gusting will be found across central and southern Wyoming starting this afternoon and lasting through about 5 AM on Friday. Expect gusts between 50 and 65 mph. For the rest of the state, expect gusting between 35 and 50 mph.  Snow will also develop in the western mountains this afternoon and evening.  There will also be a chance for light to scattered snow tonight for western, south-central, and possibly north-central (near the Big Horn Mountains) Wyoming. Slick, icy roads with periods of reduced visibility are expected for I-80 (Utah state line to Arlington), I-90 (Montana state line to Buffalo), WY-28 (near South Pass), and US-287 (Rawlins to Muddy Gap). Elsewhere, expect only a small chance for snow with a few isolated wet to slick spots.  A trough of low pressure remains settled over the state of Wyoming on Friday and Saturday.  Expect cloudy skies, breezy to gusty winds, and significantly colder temperatures during this time.  Light snow continues into Friday morning for western and central Wyoming, while there will be a smaller chance for snow or a rain/snow mix elsewhere.  Light to moderate snowfall will then be possible across southeastern Wyoming on Friday night and Saturday.
