It’s Not Likely Wichita State Ends Up in Mountain West [AUDIO]

by Keith Kelley–12 May ’16

A cbssports.com article had a report that Wichita State was interested in leaving the Missouri Valley Conference.  That same article quoted Mountain West Conference commissioner, Craig Thompson as saying–‘it ain’t going to be us’.  That response was mainly because the Shockers don’t have a football program.

Currently, the Mountain West has 12 football playing members and 11 for basketball.  Wichita State would seem like a likely program to fill that basketball void, but apparently that is not the case.  University of Wyoming Senior Associate AD, Kevin McKinney, says without football, a Wichita State addition seems unlikely.

Wichita State has also shown interest in the AAC and Conference USA.
