On April 10, 2017 the Wyoming Game and Fish Department received two separate reports of a mountain lion spotted in the Collins Heights subdivision in Gillette. Wildlife Biologist Erika Peckham and Game Wardens Brooke Weaver and Dustin Kirsch responded and located the mountain lion in the 4400 block of East Collins Road. With the assistance of the Campbell County Predator Board Member Wayne Pollat and County Trapper Calvin Taylor the mountain lion was successfully tranquilized and captured after a short pursuit ending on the 300 block of Tower Avenue.

The mountain lion was transported and relocated to the Bighorn Mountains. “We were again able to use the live trap and transport trailer that the Wyoming Sportsman’s Group here in Gillette built and donated to Game and Fish a couple years ago”, said Erika Peckham, Game and Fish Wildlife Biologist. Peckham continued, “We are fortunate to have that trap and transport unit stationed here in Gillette when black bears or mountain lions need to be moved elsewhere.”
