Mule Deer Days is back again this year

Hunting’s kind of on the back burner this time of year. We’re kind of stuck in the doldrums between the fall hunting seasons and the spring openers. But the Muley Fanatic Foundation has a cure for your cabin fever.

On May 2nd through the 4th, the Muley Fanatic Foundation has a solution for your winter boredom. That lull in outdoor opportunities between the end of the waterfowl and small game seasons and the start of the spring hunting seasons can seem to drag on forever. But the Muley Fanatic Foundation and the Game and Fish Department have partnered to bring us a hunting expo that’ll help us get back in the hunting mindset again, at least for a weekend.

It’s called it Mule Deer Days, and it’ll be packed full of seminars, guest speakers, hunting gear auctions and gun giveaways. They’re actually bringing 200 guns to the event that will be given away, and they’re also raffling off a Ford Bronco Raptor.

In addition, there will be vendors from all your favorite outdoor gear brands, and probably quite a few you’ll be happy to learn about for the first time. They’ll have guest speakers providing seminars on the best methods and tactics for hunting, as well as fishing, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Last year was the inaugural event, and they raised almost a half a million dollars for wildlife projects. Among other things, they funded the Highway 189 wildlife crossing, the Muley Fanatic Foundation Fellowship Award, and the Putting U in Hunt Program to help kids with life-threatening illnesses go hunting. I tried to go last year, but the roads were all closed due to winter storms. I’m hoping I can actually get there this year.

They’re bringing back the FlipFlop Guy again this year, showing us how to cook this incredibly succulent cut of wild game meat. They’re also again doing the Annie Oakley ladies-only dinner again, as well as the Mule Deer Days Dinner that’s open to anyone.

It all happens Thursday, May 2, through Saturday, May 4, at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs. Go to MuleyFanatic.org for more information.
