Photographers welcome at Platte River workshop

I’ve been neglecting the camera bag for a while now. Not long ago, I was thinking about getting it out and taking some photography trips, and that’s when I heard about the Platte River Photography Workshop.

Whether you’re a seasoned photography veteran or a new kid on the block, there’s a photography workshop coming up at the end of March you won’t want to miss. It’s the Platte River Photography Workshop, and this year it’s taking place in and around Glenrock on Saturday, March 23rd, and Sunday the 24th.

They’ll have classes on both Saturday and Sunday, including intro to photography, basic camera, cell phone camera settings, wildlife photography, Wyoming landscape photography, and introduction to Lightroom. The incredible experts teaching these classes are Chris Luse, Ron Hayes, Jeremy Thiess and Erin Schwartzkopf. If you’re not familiar with these artists’ work, you need to check them out. They make magic with their cameras.

There’s also a photography field trip scheduled for Saturday. They’ll take you to the Glenrock South Recreation Area, where they’ll have Mike Cushman on hand with Powder River Percherons to let you get the opportunity to photograph working draft horses amid incredible scenery. They’ll also have the Black Hills Raptor Center there with some birds of prey. I don’t think there’s anywhere else to get the chance to shoot both draft horses and raptors on the same day.

If you’re already an accomplished photographer, you might think about entering the Platte River Photography Show & Reception, too. That event takes place Friday, March 22nd, and you can win cash prizes if you submit winning photos. If you want to enter, though, you need to get your entries in by March 16th.

For more information on both the workshop and the photography show, including registration forms for both, visit Jackalope.org and click the “Forms & Applications” button in the Events tab.

And maybe I’ll see you in Glenrock in March.
