This has been a strange winter. We haven’t gotten much in the way of snow, though that’s not terribly unusual. We normally don’t get the real snowstorms until spring around here. But it never really got cold, either.
Sure, we got a few weeks when the temperature dropped below freezing. But I don’t think it dropped below zero more than once or twice down here in Cheyenne. It might have gotten into the negatives elsewhere in the state, but my guess is that it didn’t get there as often as it usually does.
Because of that relative balminess, I spent a whole lot more time goofing off outside than I would on a normal winter. And that meant I neglected things I would have been forced to do if it had been too cold to spend much time outside.
By this time in most years, my home office is immaculate, because somewhere along the line, I’d have been so bored from not being able to go outside that I’d have buckled down and cleaned every square inch of it. The rest of the house would have benefitted from that situation, as well. But here we are, almost halfway through March, and it was all still a mess.
Then came that snowstorm. It wasn’t bad, as spring storms go. We didn’t get snowed in, and when it melted, we didn’t get mudded in. It was manageable. But I took the opportunity to crack out some of the chores I’d been putting off.
The house isn’t as clean as I’d like it to be, and I still have a long way to go to get the home office up to regulations. But I’m hoping we get a few more of those storms in the next few weeks so I can put the finishing touches on those tasks. Hopefully the next storm will come with some colder temperatures, too.
