Wyoming senior Michaela Stark earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance this past weekend, the conference announced today. The award is the first of her career and the first for a Wyoming player since 2017 when Taylor Burton earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The native of Broomfield, Colo., helped the Cowgirls to a 1-1 record this weekend including a 4-1 victory over Idaho State on Sunday. For the first time in her career against the Bengals, she scored two goals in a single match. Her first score of the season came in the 26th minute of the first half, which proved to be the game-winner. Her second goal of the season came at the 56:15 mark with a shot that curled around the goalie in the right corner. In Sunday’s game, she played just 40 minutes and had three shots, all of them on goal. Against Baylor, she had one shot in the 52 minutes of action she played off the bench.

“I’m really happy for Michaela who had an outstanding game on Sunday against Idaho State,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “When the team is successful, individuals earn awards.”

Stark is currently tied with three others on the team in goals. She has five shots on the season and four of them on goal. With her two goals over the weekend, she also moved in to a tie for 12th place all-time with 11 career goals.

The Cowgirls will return to action on Friday to face the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. MT at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex.
