School district administrators are asking state lawmakers to reconsider $36 million in cuts to Wyoming’s K-12 public school system.
In Casper on Tuesday, a team of individuals from the state’s school districts made the request before the Joint Education Committee.
They said the cuts approved by the Legislature earlier this year are forcing them to cut employee hours, consolidate bus routes and eliminate vacant positions.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/28EfFZd ) that lawmakers will continue discussing the issue, but likely won’t make a decision until closer to the 2017 legislative session.
Wyoming’s revenue streams from energy have slowed to a trickle, and those dollars represent the bulk of funding for public schools.
