Summer seems to be the most popular season. People look forward to heading out to the lake, having parties in the park, and just enjoying the sunshine. Spring might be a close second, with the warming temperatures helping folks get a dose of cure for cabin fever. But there are people who think the winter is the best season, too. Most of those people tend to be the crazy snowmobile enthusiast types, who would move to Antarctica just so they could ride all year long.
But to me, the best season is fall. I’m not a big fan of heat, so I actually kind of hate the summer. Even when it meant I didn’t have to go to school, I dreaded summer because of the heat. At least with the fall, the temperatures start dropping and you can actually go outside without feeling like you’re going to burn to a crisp.
And of course, there’s hunting season. Here in Wyoming, there’s not a day during the fall when you can’t be out hunting something. Even if you fill all your tags, you can usually get a leftover license for an antlerless critter, or switch to bird hunting and either go after upland birds or waterfowl. And if you want a change of pace, you can hunt rabbits from the beginning of September all the way through February.
So between temperatures you can actually stand and the ability to hunt something every day, I like the fall best of all the seasons.
Granted, sometimes the temperature drops farther than we’d really like it to, and we tend to always get at least one good blizzard during the fall. But I still prefer that to 100-degree temperatures.
Welcome to fall. And happy hunting to you.
