Two Top-Ten Finishes Lead Cowboy Golfers in Arizona

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team earned third place after carding an 852 (-12) to complete the Cowboy Classic at the Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. Junior Ryan Wallen led the way for the Pokes as he fired a 68 (-4) in the last round to tie for fifth place.

“Overall, it was a great event with a great field,” head coach Joe Jensen said. “I’m happy with the way we played and I’m looking forward to the next event.”

Senior Kamrin Allen followed Wallen with a score of 71 (-1) to total 209 (-7), taking seventh place. Sophomore Drew McCullough ended the tournament tied for 28th with a tally of 217 (+1). Sophomore Glenn Workman finished with a total of 219 (+3) to tie for 37th, as fellow sophomore Quintin Pope ended the three-round tournament with a 230 (+14).

The individuals playing for Wyoming were sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock. Lickteig tallied a final score of 227 (+11) as Murdock notched a 223 (+7).

Colorado rallied late to take home the team title with a score of 843 (-21). Sam Houston State edged the Cowboys by one stroke to take home the silver with an 851 (-13).

The event ended with a four-way-tie for first place, which forced sudden death to crown the champion. Arizona’s Jordan Gumberg and Colorado’s Jeremy Paul shared the individual title while Jake McCrory of Sam Houston State and UC Santa Barbara’s Brandon Bauman tied for second.

UW will return to action in Provo, Utah at the BYU Cougar Classic on April 11-12.
