When the Head Coach Wants It, It Makes Them Want It More

by Keith Kelley–9 Apr ’24

Wyoming Cowboy head football coach Jay Sawvel is a player’s coach. But, it’s a give and take relationship. Sawvel is willing to allow some things, as long as the players hold up their end of the bargain. Already this spring, Sawvel has unveiled a new uniform combination–with gold jersey’s and brown pants, and names will be added to the back of Wyoming’s jersey’s. But Sawvel is still very demanding when it comes to getting things accomplished on and off the field. Cowboy defensive end Sabastian Harsh says it’s great to see your head coach so engaged with the team.

“I’ve seen my head coach get in the weight room, throw up some weight, sometimes even more weight than me, so that’s always good to see. He’s got a good vibe and you can tell he really wants it, and so it makes all of us even want it even more. It’s definitely a good thing to have. I’ve seen him in the weight room doing his own thing sometimes, doing pull-ups with chains and stuff like that. He’s still got that drive, so there’s no reason I shouldn’t have that either.”

The Cowboys are back on the practice field this (Tuesday) afternoon, as spring practice continues in Laramie.
