CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Cheyenne woman who has been on probation for assaulting a police officer in 2011 has now been ordered to serve prison time.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports Laramie County District Judge Steven Sharpe sentenced 36-year-old Amber Espinoza to four to six years in prison for violating her probation. Espinoza tested positive for marijuana in June.

Espinoza’s attorney had asked the judge to keep his client on probation with a requirement that she complete a monitoring program. But Sharpe declined, citing Espinoza’s history of violent behavior.

Court documents say that Espinoza struck a police officer in the groin with her knee in April 2011 while she was being restrained. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years of probation.
