Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites & Trails is excited to announce a year-long visitor survey aimed at better understanding visitor demographics as well as their needs, interests, and values.
Conducted every five years, this survey will help determine how resources are allocated and planning for future developments.
The data collected will be compared to the 2019 Visitor Survey, which revealed that 72% of state park visitors and 34% of historic site visitors are repeat visitors. Most visitors discover Wyoming’s parks and historic sites through previous visits, word of mouth, websites, and highway signs.
Other key findings from the 2019 survey include:
- An average of 2.9 visitors per vehicle at state parks and 3.2 visitors per vehicle at historic sites.
- At state parks, the average length of stay is 37 hours in the summer, dropping to 17 hours in the winter.
- Only 33% of visitors are likely to stay overnight.
- Historic site visitors typically stay 2.4 hours in the summer and 2.2 hours in the winter.
- The majority of visitors travel with family and friends.
The upcoming survey will be available online. Survey links will be sent to those who have made online reservations, and shared directly with those participating in outdoor recreation activities and educational programs. QR codes to access the survey will also be posted throughout parks and historic sites.
