Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl has not named a starting quarterback for the Cowboy’s opener next (Sept. 4) Saturday against Montana State. But, if last Saturday’s scrimmage is any indication, he may be close. Sean Chambers and Levi Williams have been battling for the top spot since last spring. Bohl says last Saturday’s scrimmage was a big one for them, and was pleased with the play behind center.
“They were really on,” said Bohl. “I almost got nervous about it. I was like, maybe we need to save some of these good plays for the game. But, we took care of the football, and we managed things well. I was really pleased with how we operated our offense, and particularly how we threw it and caught the ball.”
Bohl believes that Chambers had the better performance, giving him the edge last Saturday. He says he came away very impressed with him.
“It was may his best outing that I can recall,” added Bohl. “He did some really good things, when he played, with his legs, but he managed, he looked like a quarterback out there. We know he can run, but he looked like a quarterback. He was managing things well, he was on point.”
The Cowboys are winding down training camp, and getting into a normal practice pattern. They host Montana State September 4th at War Memorial Stadium.
