Lawmakers Look At Community College Funding

AP 6-25,2015

Wyoming lawmakers are considering a bill that would provide more stable funding for the state’s seven community colleges.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the Joint Appropriations Committee voted Tuesday to have a subcommittee to draft a bill to consider sponsoring for the 2016 session.

The changes would set the state funding to be based on enrollment figures that would be recalibrated every four years.

Currently state aid is determined based on enrollment numbers from 2004-05, which are more than 20 percent lower than what they are now.

The Wyoming Community College Commission then has to ask the Legislature for extra money each year to make up the difference.
