CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A lawsuit contends a western Wyoming school district failed to timely discipline a student athlete who was sexually assaulting, harassing and bullying other teammates.

The lawsuit against Lincoln County School District 2 and others was filed last week in U.S. District Court.

It says the district was negligent and violated the civil rights of a student was a freshman when the incidents occurred in 2012.

The lawsuit says coaches of the Star Valley High School football and track teams failed to immediately act against the inappropriate behavior of a student described by the lawsuit as “one of the better” athletes in school.

The student was later suspended from school because of similar behavior in 2013.

School Superintendent Alan Allred says he hasn’t seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.
