Former Wyoming basketball coach Larry Shyatt is ready for his next adventure in coaching. Shyatt was hired on as an assistant coach in the NBA, on Rick Carlisle’s staff with the Dallas Mavericks.
Shyat stepped aside as the head coach at Wyoming in late March, and hinted at something that may be possibly in the works. Shyatt said he talked to coach Carlisle last summer about a position on the Mav’s staff, but said it wasn’t the right time.
Shyatt coached the Cowboys for six seasons, over two different stints, and led the Pokes to the postseason five of those years. The last followed a Mountain West Tournament title in 2015, with a trip to the NCAA Tournament. In his six years with the Cowboys, Shaytt was 117-78. He’s not sure what his duties will be in Dallas, but feels it’s going to be a new adventure for him.
