Weatherby’s coming to Wyoming

Wyoming has attracted another big name in the firearms industry. At the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoors Trades show last week, Weatherby Firearms announced it’s pulling up stakes and moving to the Cowboy State.

Sheridan’s getting a new resident. Well, maybe more than a few new residents. But one of those residents is a company with a big name and a bigger reputation in the firearms industry.

Weatherby Firearms is moving to Wyoming. Yes, THAT Weatherby. The maker of the legendary rifles and inventor of Magnum calibers that have been the backbone of heroic hunting stories from around the globe. The company has been headquartered in California since it began in 1945, but company president Adam Weatherby said government restrictions were among the reasons the gun maker decided to leave California. He noted that Hi-Viz and Magpul have already put down roots in Wyoming, and those companies did so for many of the same reasons.

The Wyoming Business Council and Governor Matt Mead should be commended for helping bring Weatherby to Wyoming. This move will provide good jobs for more than a few Wyoming residents, and Weatherby’s presence here may entice more companies to relocate here.

The residents of Sheridan also deserve thanks. In his announcement, Adam Weatherby mentioned several times that the outdoor opportunities around Sheridan played a big part in the decision, but it was the warm welcome he and his team received from the people of Sheridan that tipped the scales. He said everywhere they went, it felt like home, because of the friendliness and helpful nature of the people he met.

Well done, Wyoming. Great things will come from this. And welcome to your new home, Weatherby.
