University of Wyoming Cowboy guard Sam Griffin was named the Mountain West Player of the Week on Monday. It marks the first time this season that a Cowboy has earned Player of the Week honors, as Cam Manyawu earned Freshman of the Week accolades earlier this season.
Griffin, a native of Miami, Fla., tied a season-high with 26 points in the Cowboys win over Nevada on Saturday. The Wolf Pack were receiving votes in both polls heading into the game. It also marked the Cowboys second-straight double-digit comeback win.
He also tied a season-high with seven assists in the contest along with six rebounds, and he didn’t turn the ball over at all. He finished the game 8-of-13 from the field and knocked down four three-pointers and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
Griffin also went over 1,800 career points in the game, as he now has 1,825 in his career. He also has 286 career three-pointers.
