Wyoming Officials Critical Of Plan To Cut Carbon Emissions

AP 8-4,2015

Wyoming’s governor and congressional delegation are criticizing the Obama administration’s latest plan to fight climate change as a bad idea.

Gov. Matt Mead said Monday the plan is scientifically flawed and wouldn’t achieve the targeted reductions. Rep. Cynthia Lummis calls it a “regulatory attack” that will inflict major costs.

Sen. John Barrasso says it will cost jobs in the coal industry.

Wyoming has much at stake with climate-change regulation. The state supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s coal and coal-fired power plants are a major source of carbon dioxide emissions.

The plan seeks to achieve a 32-percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to 2005 levels by 2030. Obama says the limits are the single most important step the U.S. has ever taken to limit carbon dioxide emissions.
