Wyoming Teachers May Lose Raises

AP – January 8, 2016

Teachers in Wyoming may lose money due to possible budget cuts by the Legislature. The Wyoming legislature provided about $6 million for teacher’s raises last year, but the cost adjustment is not included in the budget for the 2017-18 period as it currently stands.

Wyoming Department of Education spokeswoman Kari Eakins says teachers will go back to their 2013-14 salary if the Legislature does not provide funding for the raises. Sen. Jeff Wasserburger, R-Gillette, says the cost adjustment was not intentionally left out of the budget, and that the Joint Appropriations Committee will consider adding it later this month.
